Artist's Comments

Painting size: 30"x40"
Title: Gloucester Road
Medium: Acrylics and Urethanes

This is one of a small group of new paintings in the works that took approximately one month to complete. Having tired of adapting to some of the restrictive properties of paint mediums that I was using, I retreated to acrylic inks, process acrylics, tube acrylics and urethanes, utilizing both airbrush and brushes. This is not varnished yet, which brings out all the properties of the urethanes in a much deeper an richer tone altogether, but this is the painting virtually finished.

It is a return to working somewhat more tightly again, which is a slightly different direction within the series; but one which I will likely stay with, depending on a number of factors.

oh denis.

its wonderfull, the curb the sky the buildings...

i like this, you can feel that the pavement is wet and that it has thrown it down once, but it could well do it again. the billboard is outstanding- that is exceptionally well painted... but i have come to expect nothing less.

a good one!

So you couldn't find any real high rise in Brighton eh??.......but you did find some real UK weather........
Super piece, there are so many things to comment on.......but just to find this piece of subject matter with all it's quirky aspects could only be found by you......excellent piece!!

Re-cycled hippy....just happy that I'm old enough to have seen Hendrix, Clapton and Mayall live!!

ohhhhh that cornish pasty place.....!

funnily enough mental image of this intersection is more of looking at it from the opposite direction and having this geezer over the road waving at me and shouting something like "get out of the *&;)(&£"*% way" ....

but I digress -
What a magnificent piece!!!!!!! I love the incidental bits especially....the faded grafitti, the bin bags, the whiteness of a window frame against moldy concrete..... the way you have captured sunlight in this is fantastic - so although the scene is drab and bit faded, it somehow has the clarity and brightness that the sun bestows on everything...

..and just think - if ever you are lost in Brighton, you will always know the number to call a cab!

oh no! I just saw I flagged up a neutral emote by accident! I do apologise - that is a tad mortifying!

thanks tom, there is a huge amount of minute detail on the walls, etc. that just will not photograph for some reason.

what i particularly enjoyed here was creating a lot of the overlapping shading and reflections and as you nailed it, the overall feeling of being in between showers. each wall had its own distinctive coloring and surface irregularities, adding interest to the composition.

again, thanks!
