Painting title: MOTO Medium: Acrylics on canvas Size: 36"x36"
The challenge here was to emulate loose brushstrokes in a huge figure painted on a cement wall without losing the realism. The entire painting need to be constantly balanced in order for the lighting to appear convincing and to create a polymorphic illusion that would change depending on viewer perspective. Therefore, I have chosen certain pop culture icons that at once both contrast and blend into the cityscapes.
Additionally, I have radically changed the point of view as if the viewers were able to see these works from 30 feet above the sidewalk. This has created the challenge of creating multiple depths of field that appear palatable to viewers of the work itself.
With the exception of the sky, the piece was done with traditional brushes and a cmyk palette, using acrylic process colors. No airbrush, no pencils etc. I had to teach myself a new painting vocabulary to refrain from creating a smooth even surface. Due to the huge scale of the buildings, I needed to force the viewer back from the canvas in order to see the scene as it would actually appear from a distance when viewed in reality.
looking great Denis, i like the biker helmet person and the manner in which they are fragmented around the shape of the buildings to bring in a different perspective
those buildings and the windows looked a tedious task ! great results, there something that I just cannot do and find impossible to achieve so I respect any artist that can tackle them with precision like this. nice urban series coming along here
It was also very interesting to read both the comments box of this and the (semi-)tutorial, so thank you for putting that in, it's always nice to find out how things have been done, and what was challenging or easy for the artist.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. IN ORDER TO DRAW BETTER, LEARN TO SEE BETTER
I would see half finished billboards somewhat like that around Los Angeles.

I hope that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.
