Pocketful of Hope
Acrylics on panel
12"x12"
2009

Painted in similar fashion as [link] Diogenes, mostly sable brushes with acrylics, watercolor pencils and medium. This was left in a comparatively unfinished state in order to give a sense of life to the figure rather than have it appear as a lifeless piece of sculpture among the immediate surroundings.

Not fully varnished yet.. bound for an upcoming show.

Brilliant social commentary with brilliant execution! I really like this square composition. That "USA Today" just reaches out and smacks you in the face. The rhythm of light and dark values is really attention getting and gives the piece a great flow all around the picture plane. And then to see that all this is on a 12X12 panel just makes it all that more amazing! Drop dead gorgeous piece of work!

Great piece Denis. But what I really like about it is that I can really see your hand at work in this one.

Thanks a lot Daniel, I thought about using USA Today as a title but then decided it spoke for itself, or it should anyway.. it was a trip working this size and proportion, actually liked it and may do some more along these lines

and again, thanks!!

You're very welcome!

hey thanks Jason, and as you probably would guess, I had to restrain myself from going any further with it!!

Are you using special watercolor pencils or are they just regular ones? And is it possible to use those on top of oil paintings?
:icondenis-peterson:
Regular ones far as I can tell, but I also mix in some dry ones too, working them up in glazes just as with paint. By going over them with mat medium, you can effectively lock in separate glazes of dry pigment and then go over it that with waterbased colors, acrylics etc.

On top of oils, I would doubt it since oils are usually ok as a last layer, not a first due to their movement and failure to actually dry per se.

nice work denis... its for the small works show?? looks great.. is it on a canvas texture board thing?

considering its size, youve crammed in some great details there, and have done a convincing job with them!!

Wow Denis, this is really incredible. I don't know how you manage to achieve so much detail on such a small piece. The paper stacks and fabric just blow me away. You have an incredible eye for colour. I'd really love to see this piece in person.
